When I saw this image I started laughing out loud and I knew I had to share it with all of you. Because most of us have wondered how it is that we gain weight or how our weight has shifted to other places while we are pretty sure we are still behaving the same as we did when we were younger.
We believe we are still eating the same foods and the same amounts of food, but maybe not as much adult beverages ;-) We are still moving around the same amount, ok, maybe not...we probably spent more time playing a weekend pick-up game of our favorite sport or dancing the night away when we were younger, but we are running our children from one place to the other and running from work to home and in and out of the store. That's moving! Right? Right!
Well...yes and no. Maybe you are eating similar food and Yes, you are moving, which is much better than sitting all the time but... eating on the run, eating when your mind is going a million miles an hour, eating when you are sad or bored makes a big difference in how our food gets metabolized. Running your children or yourself from one activity to another can cause stress. Stress, good or bad, will cause the hormone cortisol to be released into our system. And cortisol isn't friendly to our waistline when it's constantly being pumped through our bodies.
And neither is gaining weight, especially around our waist.
The good news is we can do something about it. Below are a few ideas to help your body to break down what you eat and use it for energy and health and getting rid of what it doesn't need instead of storing it in unwanted places.
Choose at least four things from this list, you can mix them up but make them a lifetime choice.
