Your Moods, Are They Regulated In Your Gut?

It's me again with some surprising news!

With the autumn season upon us and winter hanging out around the corner many of us will experience a change in the mood...and maybe not for the better.

Some of this is directly related to SAD, seasonal affective disorder, but...some of it could be because we've been eating more sugary foods throughout the summer with cookouts and seasonal fruits in abundance not realizing how these foods throw off the microbiome of our digestive system.

Said another way, eating too much sugar causes an imbalance of the bacteria in the gut. With more 'bad' yeast and bacteria it's harder for your digestive system to digest food properly. OH...and antibiotics kill the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria that cause illnesses...

With school back in session, you've probably noticed an uptake of colds, the flu, and other illnesses. When the doctor prescribes an antibiotic to battle the infection these...

Mama Leesa's Guac Recipe

OH, The Possibilities...

There are so many things you can do with freshly made guac but the best part is how good it is for you!

Avocados have fiber, protein and healthy fats which are good for your heart and your brain. Then when you add garden fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, lemon juice, and cilantro you have a complete meal! If you add a hot pepper you've just upped the game to help with inflammation.

I could go on but I'm sure your mouth is watering and you want my recipe. Remember to be creative, use the ingredients you like. Add pineapple or leave out the cilantro. It's your dinner make it your own!

yields enough for 2-4 people

2 fresh ripe avocados - smashed, I like leaving it a bit chunky

1 tablespoon onion - finely diced

1 clove garlic - smashed

2 garden fresh roma tomatoes - diced

1/2-1 teaspoon lemon juice - fresh squeezed

1/2 - 1 jalapeno - finely diced, depending on how hot the pepper is

salt, pepper, and...

It's Better to DO Your Best...not be the best.

Do Your Best..

That's it! That is what each of us should strive for. Doing the best that we can do in the moment.

Comparing yourself to another isn't a's a stressor! And stress is a beast. That kind of stress doesn't care what it hurts or who it hurts. It just degrades your thoughts always pointing out what you could have done better, and how dumb you are for trying it 'that' way.

Over time...stress will break you down. It causes dis-ease, it destroys your joy, it destroys your health, it destroys your finances. IT IS A BEAST!

But! it doesn't have to do any of these things. You...yes... You! can tame this beast.

Here is a good place to start. Follow along with me on this video

I Am Manifesting

I AM Manifesting

At every moment from birth to death I am manifesting...and so are You! You may have seen something I've written before on this subject. I'm doing it here and will do it again because it's that important and I know I need to be reminded of it regularly so I want to offer a reminder to you too.

We become what we think and feel...period. Yesterday's thoughts become tomorrow's reality. How does this happen? Here is my understanding of this process.

What we think creates emotions, it's not often we have a neutral emotion, meaning neither good nor bad feeling about a thought. The thought may be very subtle but we will have a feeling about our thoughts.

This happens due to our survival as a species. The way our body works is still rooted in our fight or flight mechanism within our nervous systems. For our nervous system to receive any signal, we need to have an emotion, a vibration attached to it. This then allows our mind to choose how we will react...

The Mighty Oak Tree

A mighty wind blew night and day. It sole the oak tree's leaves away, Then snapped it's boughs and pulled its bark until the oak was tired and stark. But still the oak tree held its ground while other trees fell all around. The weary wind gave up and spoke, "How can you still be standing, Oak?" The oak tree said, "I know that you can break each branch of mine in two, carry every leaf away, shake my limbs, and make me sway. But I have roots stretched in the earth, growing stronger since my birth. You'll never reach them, for you see, they are the deepest part of me. Until today, I wasn't sure of just how much I could endure. But now I've found, with thanks to you, I'm stronger than I ever knew."

Especially now, try to remember that you are stronger than your loss and even though you are weathered and worn your strength is deep inside. Take this time to nurture and heal. You will come back even stronger then before.

Is Your Cell Phone Making You Sick?

Actually, all of your electronics are disrupting your brainwaves. And it's worse for children!!

This is so frightening but it's true. You should do your own research on this. However, everything I've read has made me a believer. Enough so I've gotten defusers for everyone in my family.

You may have heard of EMF or electromagnetic-frequency and like a lot of info, you let it pass over you without giving it much thought. It takes a while for things to catch on, like how we are now understanding how cigarette smoking causes cancer and how are doctors are now telling us most of us are Vitamin D deficient, and how the UVA and UVB rays from getting a sunburn when we were young or consistent exposure to these harmful rays (especially tanning beds) cause skin cancer. Most people didn't listen to those earlier whistleblowers.

The studies I've read are pretty convincing for me to jump on the EMF bandwagon now because I am sensitive to energy frequencies and vibrations...

Too Many Easter Eggs? Make Egg Salad!

I enjoy everything about Easter. It's spring, many of us get pretty new clothes, there is always a lot of food, family, and fun!

We like coloring eggs with our girls. It's just fun being creative, getting our hands all stained with food coloring and then hiding them. But the best part for me is making egg salad with the ones that survive.

I have been making this delicious salad since I was a child. When we went on a family vacation mom always packed egg salad sandwiches for the car ride.  As I got older I was in charge of making this satisfying meal.

It can be the main course of a meal or a snack. If it's in my fridge I will not stay out of it. It's like I hear it calling me to take just one bite! LOL

I do not have a recipe...sorry... however here is my ingredient list.

1 doz hard boiled eggs (I have recently bought an egg cooker and I'm in love with it! I'll connect a link below)

minced green or sweet onion

Delicious, Cheap, and Easy Dinner

How does a no fuss no muss meal sound to you that is will make your mouth water...

and have you wanting seconds? I can tell you I did have a second serving of everything on this plate! And...I don't feel even the slightest bit guilty.

The salad was so fresh and flavorful, I grated fresh parmesan cheese on the broccoli and baked a ready to bake turkey tenderloin. It was so good I'm glad I have half of the tenderloin left over for another meal!

I wrapped the tenderloin in foil and closed it up tight. Then I lined a baking dish with another sheet of foil just in case it leaked, and it did so I'm glad I thought of that. Because I did this extra step I didn't have any clean-up from baking the turkey. Bake it at *325 for 45-50 minutes or until the internal temp reads *160. Remove it from the oven and loosen the foil while leaving it covered and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.

Next, I mixed fresh baby leaf spinach, prewashed, with an English cucumber and half a...

Coconut Oil; The Good The Bad and the Ugly?

Why! does eating healthy have to be so complicated?!

Do we all need to get our education as a dietitian to understand how to eat healthier?

Eat this, don't eat that...geez... it makes my head spin and I'm fairly well versed in the healthy eating arena.

The problem as I see it with almost all of the news reports we get today is fragmented information. The reporters only have so much time and space to share the info they've collected, or they are paid to sway us to a particular belief about any given subject (especially food ads) and we are left as the consumer to fill in the blanks. That is if we think there are any blanks to fill in! Sadly most of us take those bits and I mean bits of information and speak to them as Truth. If only deciphering the so-called facts about the food we eat was so easy.

Many years ago when ingesting coconut oil became a craze I thought humm... what is it about this food source that is so good and how can it improve my life? So,...
