7 Habits of Healthy Eaters

7 Habits of Healthy Eaters

1. Drink pure water all day every day. Invest in a water filter for your kitchen. The cost is well worth your health and over time it will save you money if you are buying bottled water. If you buy bottled water get it in the glass, not plastic. The plastic leaches unwanted things into the water in the bottle. (This is a topic in itself).

2. Eat Whole Fresh Foods. When you want a balanced diet eating the whole food is the best way to get it. Each part of the food, the skin, seeds and sometimes even some of the dirt (depending on where it came from) all have a role to play in our nutrition, digestion and elimination. Buy the whole foods locally and in the season. Get to know a local farmer at a farmers market so you understand their farming practices, like if they use pesticides and what kind, how often. Then when you get your food home you will know what to wash it with or if you can rinse it good to leave some of the ‘good’ bacteria on...

SUCCESS...How Do You Define Yours?

positive thoughts Jan 03, 2017

Another year has started and we like to set our goals for Success...

As I was looking around at how others view success I realized there are many meanings. Then I went to our standard for definitions The Merriam-Webster Dictionary and was surprised to find how it's definition for Success has changed throughout the years. In the early 1800's the culture was about who you were as a person; "...being generous, prosperous, healthy, and kind.", was the standard for Success.

In our modern day definition I found it's meaning to be about what you have; ... the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. I then needed to look up the definition of eminence...a position of prominence or superiority. (which is found within the meaning of Success in 2016 edition).

I think the latter sums up most people's attitude for Success in today's world.

Do you see what we as a society have done? We have put position and money ahead of kindness and our health!

I think we...

Don't Deprive... Balance~

what you eat matters Dec 28, 2016

There's no need to deprive yourself of the foods you enjoy. Plus, we've all tried that and it doesn't work, at least for long.

Healthy eating is a lifestyle, not a diet.

You can stick to your decision to eat healthier and still enjoy going out to dinner or with friends after work! Even if the gals want to go out for dessert to celebrate a birthday!
Good eating habits can be maintained with balance.

The Next 2 Minutes WILL Change Your Holiday Experience!

Let's be honest...the holidays can be stressful.

We have stress in our everyday life, but when we add in the excitement of extra family and friends, the extra shopping and traveling and the extra foods that are all around us... everywhere we turn there are goodies and they talk to us! We hear them saying, "you can eat just one...", but we stay strong and walk by them and say to ourselves, nope, I had some yesterday I'm not having them today....and then...

I blame Stress!

Take a look at how the chemicals in our brain react to any form of stress.

- According to Harvard Health; during stress, the adrenal glands release a hormone called cortisol, and cortisol increases appetite...

Why does our body do this, why does it pump something into our system that can cause health problems?

I believe the evolution of our body has not kept up with the evolution of modern society.

Our bodies were designed to increase our appetites after a time of stress to...

Changing Your Thoughts IS Like Training Your Dog!

positive thoughts Dec 15, 2016

Most of us have been taught what to believe. We are taught by our family, our friends, our community, and the world at large.

We are taught by our family with their best intention. They want us to learn from their mistakes or by the way they see the world around them. What they might not consider is they are seeing life from the experiences THEY have had.

We are taught by our friends, in the same way, they are behaving in the way their family has taught them. This expands our views a bit.

We are taught by our community from a collection of our families beliefs. This is Socialization. And so it goes back through time.

This way of learning has served us well! We have learned what plants we can and shouldn't eat, we have learned how to keep ourselves warm and safe. Which has all lead to the survival of our human race.

But...it's also stifled us from being Free Thinkers. We certainly have those among us that Think and Act...

Who Says Healthy Can't Be Yummy!

what you eat matters Dec 12, 2016

I like choosing healthy foods, however, I also like to indulge in all things yummy!!

This is why I've taken some of my favorite foods and put them together into a guilt free treat.

Dark Chocolate; lowers high blood pressure, packed with antioxidants per Dirk Taubert, MD, PhD, from the University of Cologne, Germany. The Darker the better! Chocolates made in Europe are generally richer in cocoa phenols than those made in the U.S.

**Remember to balance your calorie intake, don't replace fruits and veggies with chocolate...you know who you are. Even tho dark chocolate has healthy benefits you still need a balanced diet.

Peanut Butter; has fiber and protein that helps you fill fuller longer. It's got Vit E & Vit B6,  magnesium, and potassium. These are good for muscles and to give you energy. It has monounsaturated fat which is good for your waistline.

Look for organic that hasn't added anything. Better yet find a place that grinds the...

What is YOUR SuperPower?

positive thoughts Dec 10, 2016

Do you know your SuperPower? We all have one you know...everyone of us.

If you're not sure what yours is, ask the people that know you best. This is a good exercise to do when you begin to feel overwhelmed.

Jot down what they have said about you.

Then when the world around you feels a bit heavy for you, take a look at what others see in you.

Don't question why they think this about you, just take them at their word and believe it.

Drink it into every cell in your body.

Allow yourself to become what others see in you then nothing will stop your SuperPower from growing!!

ACT!

movement Dec 08, 2016

You've heard the saying 'there's no better time than the present'

Turns out it's true! We will never get this moment back, so, get the most of it and ACT Now

If there is something you want to get accomplished and aren't finding the time or think 'I'll do it later' if this is your thoughts you may never get it done.

At this very moment, pick up a pen and write down what and when you will get that one thing done you've been putting off. Then make sure you do it!

Maybe it's something as simple as calling a family member or a friend. Do it the next time you get in your car. Call them.

Maybe it's something that you'd like to have for yourself like to soak in the tub or to read a book. Do it! once the kids are in bed draw a nice hot bath, put some essential oil in it, grab that book and chill.

Whatever it is, just commit to getting it done in the next couple of days. Put a reminder on your phone, and don't ignore it!! Tell your kids or...

Feel Your Best, All Day Every Day!

Does this sound too good to be true?

Well, it isn't!! And I can prove it to you! Better yet you can prove it to yourself.

All you'll need to do is stay in bed for 5 extra minutes a day.

Doing a few stretches before you leave the comfort and warmth of you bed each morning will help you feel your best all day long.

Here are FIVE of my favorites to get you started:

  • knees to chest - bring one knee up to your chest and relax...feel your back soften and open, now lower that knee and bring the other one up and do the same thing. Now bring both knees up to your chest while you allow your back and body to relax
  • bend your knees, feet touching the bed, shoulders flat on the bed. slowly let your knees fall to one side. When you feel the pulling on your side slip a pillow under your knees so they can rest. As your back and side begin to lengthen slip the pillow out or adjust it so you can lengthen more. Continue to move the pillow until your knees are laying flat...
