I'm starting a long overdue vacation today. My daughter and I will be sightseeing, wine tasting, beaching and hiking over the next week. But to get to our destination city we need to fly. Let's be truthful here, although flying is much faster and often times a more convenient way to travel it can be stressful!
Besides the obvious ways to keep a smile on your face, like packing early, checking in with the airlines to be sure your flights are on-time and having your tickets at the ready I have 3 things you may not have thought about.
#1- Staying hydrated. Did you know dehydration is one of the main reasons a body gets tired?
A study done by the Natural Hydration Council showed that dehydration is a huge contributor to our nation feeling tired. Dr. Roger Henderson, who is an adviser to the Natural Hydration Council, said: ‘I see many people in my surgery who are feeling tired all the time. He also states;
By now I'm sure you've heard how bad the ticks are this spring.
If not listen up...They are bad according to the ©2017 National Pest Management Association.
The CDC warns us that ticks carry bacteria, viruses, and parasites and when infected with these pathogens they can be passed on to us! When passed on by a tick they are known as Tick-Borne Diseases.
Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Fever are a couple of the more common here in the USA but there are many others. Nearly 30k cases were reported as confirmed or probable in 2010.
With the warmer winter across the USA, they are predicting a tick population explosion.
It's important to know the signs of a tick bite and how to remove the properly but what I think is most important is how to Prevent them from getting on you and your pets.
Email Apnea was termed by Linda Stone, she had been suffering from a respiratory infection when her doc suggested a breathing technique which helped her immensely. However, she noticed that when she started reading her emails she began holding her breath!
In my wellness practice, I've coached many people through the years on becoming aware of how they 'hold' themselves during the day and surprisingly many of them find they hold their breath.
They do this unconsciously. And it happens at different times for different people. Sometimes it's when they are in traffic, or focusing at work. It happens if someone talks to them they are uncomfortable with like their boss or a co-worker.
I've had parents tell me they've noticed they hold their breath during parent-teacher conferences.
So you see it happens a lot! But... it wasn't until I read this article on email apnea that I...
She is outside my window every day! I look for all the ways nature is speaking to me. Some days it might be a bird singing so loud I have to stop and listen, another day it might be the smell after a long spring rain.
I think one of the most important ways for me to stay healthy both in my emotions and in my body is to connect with Nature.
Whether we can get outside or not there is always a window to peer out. Whether you live in the middle of the wilderness or in the heart of a city you can find Nature trying to get your attention.
It doesn't matter if you need Encouragement or you just need a moment to breath Nature is always there to support you. How can Nature Encourage you? Take a walk in the spring and notice how the buds of a tree are wanting to burst open, do you think that's easy? Do you think that bud just happened on to the end of that stem or branch? Think about everything that had to go right for this bud to get in position to...
When I saw this image I started laughing out loud and I knew I had to share it with all of you. Because most of us have wondered how it is that we gain weight or how our weight has shifted to other places while we are pretty sure we are still behaving the same as we did when we were younger.
We believe we are still eating the same foods and the same amounts of food, but maybe not as much adult beverages ;-) We are still moving around the same amount, ok, maybe not...we probably spent more time playing a weekend pick-up game of our favorite sport or dancing the night away when we were younger, but we are running our children from one place to the other and running from work to home and in and out of the store. That's moving! Right? Right!
Well...yes and no. Maybe you are eating similar food and Yes, you are moving, which is much better than sitting all the time but... eating on the run, eating when your mind is going a million miles an hour,...
Let's be honest...the holidays can be stressful.
We have stress in our everyday life, but when we add in the excitement of extra family and friends, the extra shopping and traveling and the extra foods that are all around us... everywhere we turn there are goodies and they talk to us! We hear them saying, "you can eat just one...", but we stay strong and walk by them and say to ourselves, nope, I had some yesterday I'm not having them today....and then...
I blame Stress!
Take a look at how the chemicals in our brain react to any form of stress.
- According to Harvard Health; during stress, the adrenal glands release a hormone called cortisol, and cortisol increases appetite...
Why does our body do this, why does it pump something into our system that can cause health problems?
I believe the evolution of our body has not kept up with the evolution of modern society.
Our bodies were designed to increase our appetites after a time of stress to...
You've heard the saying 'there's no better time than the present'.
Turns out it's true! We will never get this moment back, so, get the most of it and ACT Now.
If there is something you want to get accomplished and aren't finding the time or think 'I'll do it later' if this is your thoughts you may never get it done.
At this very moment, pick up a pen and write down what and when you will get that one thing done you've been putting off. Then make sure you do it!
Maybe it's something as simple as calling a family member or a friend. Do it the next time you get in your car. Call them.
Maybe it's something that you'd like to have for yourself like to soak in the tub or to read a book. Do it! once the kids are in bed draw a nice hot bath, put some essential oil in it, grab that book and chill.
Whatever it is, just commit to getting it done in the next couple of days. Put a reminder on your phone, and don't ignore it!! Tell your kids or...
Does this sound too good to be true?
Well, it isn't!! And I can prove it to you! Better yet you can prove it to yourself.
All you'll need to do is stay in bed for 5 extra minutes a day.
Doing a few stretches before you leave the comfort and warmth of you bed each morning will help you feel your best all day long.

As summer winds down and we start into fall it's normal to slow down. It is how our seasons are designed.
Fall is meant to let go of the excess and the things we no longer need. But for many of us we're not quite ready.
In fact we still have so much that we want to accomplish but we are naturally beginning to wind down.
The good news is you can still find Renewed Energy anytime of the year!!
Here are 3 Tips to Renew Your Energy
1) Open your blinds or turn on your lights if it's dark outside, this changes your brain chemistry to let your body know it's up-time!
